Juan Pablo Alvarez

Juan Pablo nació en Temperley (Gran Buenos Aires) el 24 de Febrero de 1976. Desde hace siete años investiga el “Dresden Affair” de 1889, incluido el plan de gestión de la inmigración por agentes argentinos en Irlanda, el viaje que hicieron el vapor y sus pasajeros, y el proyecto de la colonia irlandesa en Napostá, cerca de Bahía Blanca. Desde 2007, Juan Pablo ha estado cooperando con SILAS (www.irlandeses.org) para mejorar la calidad de sus publicaciones on-line y es el Gerente de Producción de la edición mensual de la IMSLA (Irish and Latin American Studies) y el sitio web de SILAS. Es Licenciado en Marketing y actualmente trabaja como Jefe de Producto para una importante empresa argentina.

Juan Pablo was born in Temperley (24/02/1976), a district of the Great Buenos Aires area. He researches the 'Dresden Affair' of 1889, including the migration scheme managed by Argentine agents in Ireland, the journey of the steamer Dresden and her passengers, and the settlers of the Irish Colony in Napostá, near Bahía Blanca. Since 2007, Juan Pablo has been cooperating with SILAS (www.irlandeses.org) to improve the quality of its online publications and is the current Production Manager of the journal Irish Migration Studies in Latin America and the SILAS website. Juan Pablo has a Bachelor degree in Marketing and he works as product manager for a leading Argentine company.

Objetives / Objetivos

* To rescue the story of the biggest batch of Irish and British immigrants ever to come to Argentina in order to brake the historical amnesia.

* To contribute with the descendants families of these immigrants to the better knowledge of the history of their ancestors.

* To reduce the cultural barriers that many descendants families now have by supporting them in what they may need.

* To create a memorial and put it in the La Viticola Station dedicated to the memory of those who died in the colony.

* To motivate with this, the construction of a new cultural link between Ireland and Argentina.

* To preserve in the memory of the community the narrations and tales of the immigrant descendants of the SS Dresden for posterity.

* Rescatar la historia del mayor contingente de inmigrantes Irlandeses e Ingleses que vinieron a la Argentina con el fin de romper la "amnesia histórica".

* Contribuir con las familias de estos descendientes a una mejor comprensión de la historia de sus ancestros.

* Disminuir o atenuar la barrera cultural que separa actualmente a varias de éstas familias brindándoles el soporte necesario a tal fin.

* Gestionar la puesta en la estación de La Viticola una placa recordatoria dedicada la memoria de quienes murieron en la colonia.

* Generar nuevos lazos culturales entre Irlanda y Argentina.

* Guardar en la memoria de la colectividad los relatos de los descendientes de los inmigrantes del SS Dresden para la posteridad.
